Frequently Asked Questions
How is a level of care determined?
At the time of move-in, the director of assisted living and nurse complete an assessment on each new resident to determine the all-inclusive level of care, which ranges from base level to level four. The level of care uses a points system and reflects the amount of caregiver support needed for activities of daily living. Level-of-care will be reassessed at least annually to ensure seamless transitions in level of caregiver support.
Do I have to sign a lease?
Residents sign an occupancy agreement that is a month-to-month commitment. If a resident wishes to leave their apartment for any reason, we require only a 30-day written notice. Exceptions may be made for significant changes in a medical condition.
Are you Medicare/Medicaid certified?
Assisted living on the Village Shalom campus is private pay; however, there are some additional payment options available to residents. Long-term care insurance as well as veterans benefits can provide you or your loved one with a significant reduction in your monthly fees. Village Shalom is Medicare/Medicaid certified in our skilled nursing areas.
Does Village Shalom provide transportation?
Yes, we provide both scheduled and unscheduled transportation. We have two full-time drivers along with a 24-passenger bus and an eight-passenger van, both of which are wheelchair accessible. This allows for transportation for both activities and medical appointments.
What type of caregivers does Village Shalom provide in assisted living?
All staff members at our assisted living facility are certified or licensed by the state of Kansas. Through our staff development department, Village Shalom offers and encourages all staff to be first-aid and CPR certified.
Can I keep kosher if I move to Village Shalom?
Yes, we offer kosher options for every meal of the day from our Vaad- supervised kosher kitchen. Kosher meals are available through Rachel’s Café in the dining room or delivery.
Does Village Shalom offer therapy services in assisted living?
While you’re a resident at Village Shalom, you may receive therapy from in our rehabilitation gym with a doctor’s order, or through a home health service in your apartment. Physical, occupational and speech therapies are all available on campus either in your apartment or at the Wang Rehabilitation Center. Aquatic therapy is available in The Wellness Center.
Can I bring my pet with me to Village Shalom?
Yes, we understand that pets are a part of the family, too. Small dogs and cats are permitted in assisted living, and we even provide pet care options for residents who need some extra help with their four-legged friends.
Do you have a physician on campus?
Village Shalom has a medical director who is on campus weekly. Our on-site dental clinic is open two days per week for all residents. We also have a podiatrist, an optometrist and an audiologist who each make on-site visits monthly or as needed.
