Village Shalom Opens Major Expansion
A newly completed four-story apartment building at Village Shalom is now open, with daily move-ins scheduled through October. Part of a $42 million expansion project that broke ground two years ago, the building adds 76 apartment homes to the retirement community, which dates back more than a century. Features include an extensive amenity corridor on the first floor. Named “Main Street,” the corridor is home to a restaurant, bistro, pub, theater and day spa.
“This is a big chapter in our 100-plus-year history, and we’re honored to be able to advance our mission of enabling seniors to flourish in a safe, caring and compassionate environment,” said Matt Lewis, Village Shalom president and CEO. “The added amenities have resonated with both longtime and new residents, who are drawn to the look and feel of an upscale hotel.”
“New residents are excited to move in given the safety, security and lifestyle our community offers older adults,” said Jill Allin, director of sales and marketing. “We’ve worked hard to minimize the effects of the coronavirus at Village Shalom, and we’ll continue to do so.”
The apartment homes follow the recent completion of a new memory care building. Opened in early 2020, the building added 48 memory care residences to the Village Shalom campus. Substantial renovations are also ongoing at the community’s rehabilitation center, which will add 24 short-term rehab suites and a state-of-the-art therapy gym upon completion this fall, rounding out the expansion.
“These accommodations and continuum of care ensure we’re well positioned to serve local seniors and their families for many decades into the future,” added Lewis. “It’s been a long time coming, and we’re proud to see this project come to fruition and live up to what we envisioned.”
